Going solo

Most of my recent solo gigs have featured a tailored selection of modern and traditional Scottish songs with a few of my own compositions, accompanied with my preferred cittern. Sometimes I augment the naturally percussive cittern with some 'stomp' pedal to get people dancing, or ‘loop’ a rhythm and chord sequence to play ceilidh tunes over the top. Previously, I have performed solo songs and instrumentals on multiple mandolin-family instruments to showcase their unique strengths and limitations, as well as performing solo on piano (with more rock n' roll, pop and funk influences) and on guitar (with more blues, pop and soul influences) - and am happy to tailor my set list, style and instrumentation to the needs of your event, clientele and preferences. I also very much enjoy collaborating with other artists, taking requests, 'calling' ceilidh dances, facilitating folk sessions, improvising / adapting songs, leading sing-alongs and accompanying guests as required.
